Sometimes the best ideas come from real life.

For creators Samuel Johnson and Dominique Paige, navigating a long-distance relationship sparked the inspiration for what would eventually become Lovers Quarrel — a couples card game turned interactive mobile app designed to help partners connect, communicate, and learn more about each other in fun and meaningful ways.

Now available on the Apple App Store, the app blends playful conversation with thoughtful prompts to encourage deeper connection between couples. You can explore the app here:

Turning Distance Into Inspiration

Like many couples separated by distance, Johnson and Paige found themselves wanting more than quick texts or routine video calls. They wanted conversations that felt engaging, meaningful, and even a little adventurous.

So they began creating their own prompts and questions — conversation starters that encouraged them to open up, reflect, and keep the spark alive despite the miles between them.

What started as a personal way to stay connected soon evolved into something much bigger.

A Couples Game With a Modern Twist

Lovers Quarrel builds on the classic couples card game concept but introduces a modern digital experience. The app offers conversation prompts designed to help couples explore topics ranging from fun, playful challenges to deeper reflections on relationships, communication, and personal growth.

One of the app’s standout features is an AI-powered analysis tool that helps users reflect on their responses, encouraging greater self-awareness and understanding within relationships.

The result is a mix of entertainment, curiosity, and meaningful dialogue — turning simple conversations into opportunities for stronger connection.

Black Creators Bringing New Ideas to Tech

In the growing world of relationship and lifestyle apps, Johnson and Paige are also part of a new wave of Black entrepreneurs building technology rooted in real experiences.

Their approach didn’t start in a boardroom or tech incubator. It started with two people simply looking for a better way to stay connected.

By transforming that personal idea into a digital platform, they’ve created something that celebrates both innovation and intentional relationships.

Looking Ahead

With plans to expand the experience through additional games and features, Lovers Quarrel represents more than just an app — it’s a reminder that creativity, partnership, and entrepreneurship often begin with everyday challenges.

And sometimes, the most powerful ideas come from something as simple as two people trying to understand each other a little better.
